How Do you Know if a Clinical Trial is Reputable?

Here are 4 key questions to consider:

  1. Are all of the costs of the clinical trial covered (for example, the study treatments?)
  2. What are the qualifications of the clinical trial team?
  3. Has the clinical trial application been reviewed by a regulatory agency? (for example, Health Canada?)
  4. Has the clinical trial been reviewed and approved by a research ethics board?

If the trial is safe and ethical, you will be protected in at least these 3 ways:

  1. By the Informed Consent process
  2. Through extensive review and approval of the study protocol by scientific experts and an Institutional Review Board (IRB)
  3. Continued monitoring by the IRB, the research team, the trial sponsor organization, and sometimes Data and Safety Monitoring Boards (DSMBs)

Did you know?

You can withdraw from a clinical trial at any time without stating your reason.
